Patricia Severance

Obituary of Patricia Ann Severance

Patty Severance went peacefully to her home in Heaven on December 27, 2021. Patty was born October 5, 1935, in Bloomington, Illinois. She was the youngest of the three children of Hazel and Jesse Powers and lived on a farm with her older brothers Glen and Don. While in high school she and her mom moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where she was a cheerleader at Highland High School. There she met and married Lee Severance. Patty and Lee raised their family and loved each other for 65 years until Lee’s death in 2018. Patty was the newly married wife of a US Army Officer when they received their assignment to Germany in 1954. The first two of their five children were born overseas. That first posting began a military career for the couple that would move them eleven times in 22 years. Patty seemed to always make time for worthwhile projects. She volunteered and was a good leader to help with things at school, sports for the kids, church and politics. One of her favorite volunteer jobs was when the family lived in Alaska. Patty and the other military wives greeted planes filled with wounded soldiers from the Vietnam War. She took care of and encouraged the soldiers in their brief stay before they continued back home. Patty often said in her later years that all she ever wanted to be was a mom. She was a great mom and very good at so many other things in her life. Patty’s mother lived with the family as the children grew up and that meant there were eight in all after 1961 when Jodi, their youngest, was born. The family survived two tours in Vietnam for Lee. She did her duty while he did his. Times were tough and money was tight for this large family on military pay. Patty worked outside the home to make ends meet for much of her working life. She was a hard worker who applied herself well to many jobs, mostly office work, and spent many years in the medical field. Patty and Lee retired to Loveland in 1990 from Colorado Springs. She became a lively and memorable part of this community. Many stories will be told of her unique personality and friendliness. She could and did talk to anyone, mostly about the pride she had in her kids. Patty Severance was devoted to her husband and family above all else. Her emphasis on togetherness and family loyalty helped a large and diverse family to stay close through many challenges. Mom, Baba, Patty is in the hearts of her children; Sue, Doug (wife Janet), Mike (wife Cole), Missy (husband Jc), and Jodi (husband Mike). She also has 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren (with 1 on the way), and 3 great-great grandchildren. Memorial Contributions can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or to the 137 Connection, which were her favorite charities.
