Juanita Brookshier

Obituary of Juanita Jean Brookshier

It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Juanita "Anita” Brookshier, age 73, of Fort Collins, CO. Anita passed away peacefully after a quick but ferocious battle with pancreatic cancer on January 18th 2022. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, who made up the entirety of her world, Rodger Whiteside, Angela Sims and Lindsay Brookshier. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Robert Whiteside, Zachary Thompson, Brady Sims, Isabella Sims and Adrian Brookshier. Anita is survived by her brother, Robert Gargac; sisters, Lynn Roberts and Julie Sloan; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Additionally, she’s survived by her precious dog, Lily, whom she loved with all her heart. She is preceded in death by her husband of 24 years, Keith Brookshier and parents, Florence and Robert Gargac. Anita was a creative soul whose hobbies included gardening, crafts, thrifting and sewing. She loved her garden and greenhouse and always reminisced about her household projects in her home in Arvada, CO where she raised her youngest daughter. She also called other places home throughout her life such as Chicago, IL, Manitowoc, WI and Fort Collins, CO. She loved California and spoke often of fond memories of her time on the beach with friends and family in her lifetime. Anita was a fierce protector and advocate of those she loved. You could always count on Anita to be in your corner at a moment’s notice if you needed her to be. She found passion for education towards her last years of life and discovered great joy studying Gender Studies and Indigenous Culture. Anita was an advocate that cared deeply about animal welfare issues and Indigenous injustice and often contributed what she could to charities that supported these causes. She adored animals and fiercely loved all her dogs throughout her life which is a trait now carried on in her children. But most of all she loved her children, grandchildren and little dog Lily. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. While Anita’s family grieves her loss, they are choosing to remember Anita in a way that honors her spirit with a Celebration of Life service. The service will be held on Thursday, January 20th at 2PM at Viegut Funeral Home located at 1616 N Lincoln Ave, Loveland, CO 80538 with a brief reception to follow. Come dressed in your casual best as Anita preferred a laidback occasion with plenty of love, laughter and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. Memorial service Thursday January 20, 2022, 2:00pm at Viegut Funeral Home with reception follow service at Viegut Reception Center.
