Obituary of Richard Dean Bell

Richard Dean Bell (86) passed away peacefully at Good Samaritan in Loveland, Colorado on Friday, May 26, 2023. Dick was born the youngest of three children in Lincoln, Nebraska to Norman and Nora (Lyon) Bell in 1937. He married Patsy (Edie) Hanley following high school and had three children. He held various interesting jobs throughout his life. He often talked about the houses he helped build in Lincoln and Omaha and loved to drive by a few of them whenever he visited the area. Dick worked at Kellogg’s for a few years at which time they bought their first house in Papillion, NE. He then went to work with The American Federation of Grain Millers where he held multiple positions throughout his tenure there. While at the American Federation of Grain Millers he traveled a lot and also moved several times with his family to various places within Kansas and Minnesota. He eventually divorced and moved to New York for a short time. Later he moved back to the Kansas City, MO area and started working at Purina then moved into a management position at Cargill. While at Cargill he continued to live in Kansas City, Missouri where he met and married Patty (Barry) Bell. Together they lived in Lee Summit, MO then they purchased a home at Lake Pomme De Terre, where they loved boating, water skiing, golfing, playing cards and met many forever friends. After a few years they made the decision to move to Colorado to enjoy the mountains views where they could hike, go on lots of scenic drives/vacations and to live near and spend time with Patty's sister, Jona and family that live in Colorado. After the move one of Dicks favorite past times was golfing with his new found friends. He loved to travel and for several years he golfed three times a week and traveled whenever he was able until his health issues slowed him down. His other favorite past times were playing cards and taking long drives. Once he was no longer able to play golf regularly whenever you asked him what he would like to do, his answer was either play cards, watch golf on tv or go for a ride to get a coke. He had his favorite places to take a ride around the lake or up into the mountains. Dick always had a very good sense of humor and loved to joke around as well.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Patty Bell, two daughters, Cindy (Ron) Kwiatkowski, Jen (Dan) Meyer, Sister-in-law, Jona Dunlap, Brother-in-Law Cec (Deb) Barry, multiple grandchildren including, Brandi, Joe, Aaron, Matt, Tim, Jeff, Brian, Valerie, and Todd, multiple nieces and nephews including Cass, Jon, Lindsey, Barbara, Jeanine, Mike, Debby, Ethan, and Kevin, multiple great grandchildren and great nieces and nephews including, Gavin, Hailey, Hadrian, TJ, Ayrianna, Jax, Ayden, Cadence, Sawyer, Bryson, Brett, Logan, Ben, Scarlet, Cole, Jayce, and Kaydyn,.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Dick and Patty’s home in Loveland, Colorado on June 24th, 2023, from 1pm-3pm. Please call or text Patty or Cindy for address, if needed.
