Obituary of Neva Jean Shannon

Neva Jean (Sprenger) Shannon of Loveland, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 20th, 2023.

July 23, 1930 – May 20, 2023

Neva Jean was born in Windsor, Colorado on the 23rd of July 1930, to Edward John Henry Sprenger and Martha Matilda (Dumke) Sprenger. Neva and her brother Kenneth grew up on a farm northeast of Loveland, and later moved to another farm south of Masonville.

She attended school in Loveland and graduated from the old Loveland High School on Fourth Street.  After graduation, she worked for the local phone company.  She met her life love, Robert Lee Shannon and married on June 17th, 1951, at Trinity Lutheran Church.  They celebrated 50 years of marriage together before Bob’s death in 2001.  They raised five daughters, Linda Jean, Joan Carol, Leeann Kay, Jillene Sue and Lisa Julie in the Loveland Fort Collins area.

Bob called her Jean, which stuck with her friends and family for most of her life.  They were both active 4-H leaders for the girls and big fans of baseball and football.  She was dedicated to her family, a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She was a terrific gardener, loved raising irises and vegetables.  She baked, canned and prepared feasts for frequent family gatherings.  She sewed holiday dresses for the girls growing up, then Christmas pajamas for the grandkids.

When the girls were older Jean went to work for Atlas Van Lines as a packer and team lead.  She was very active in the church and organized a group to volunteer monthly at Community Kitchen.

Neva Jean is survived by four of her five daughters, Linda Shannon–Hills (Bob Hills), Leeann Shannon (Gary Ceely), Jillene Shannon (Garry Peterson), Lisa Marshall (Jack).  Grandchildren Jason Shannon and son Cooper, daughters Isabel and Rachel; Jeremy Shannon (Brittany); Ross Heidebrecht and daughter Kylie and son Elliott; Marin Epp (Brandon) and son Archer and daughter Mae; Erin Hagenbrok and daughter Abigail; Shannon Barela (Kyle) and sons Gage, Quintin, Cameron, and Zachary and daughters Lainey and Rylee; and Austin Marshall.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, her daughter Joan, her parents, Edward and Martha and brother Kenneth.

We will miss her. Our memories will be with us always.

There will be a Celebration of Neva Jean’s life at 10:30 on June 5, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3333 N Duffield Avenue in Loveland. Followed by a reception/lunch in the church’s fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, Jean requested donations be made in her name to Community Kitchen or Trinity Lutheran Church.
