Obituary of John Robert Vaughn Jr
John Vaughn passed away peacefully on June 6, 2023 at Poudre Valley Hospital in Ft. Collins, Colorado. After having fought many illnesses and suffering much pain this past year, our Lord and Savoir decided it was time to take him home and let him rest.
John was born March 20, 1940 in Denver, Colorado to John Robert Vaughn Sr. and Eva Viola (Nelson) Vaughn. He was the oldest of there children, his sister Shirley Vaughn and his brother Stanley Vaughn (deceased).
John grew up in Denver, graduating from Denver West High, class of ’58. He told stories of living in an old converted railroad car as a child. Riding his bike to Red Rocks and working at a gas station with his cousin, Don. John worked at many jobs in his lifetime and most all of them involved a vehicle of some sort. As a young man, he drove a delivery truck for a cabinet maker. He was a truck driver for Eastman Kodak, from where he retired after 25 years. He then drove a transit bus for the city of Fort Collins and finally was a valet driver for Stevinson Lexus of Frederick, CO.
At 22yrs of age, John moved to Loveland with his dad, mom, sister and brother. There he pursued his favorite pastimes; bowling, golfing and eating Italian food at Santeramos, where he worked for a short time. He, also, was a pinsetter at the bowling alley underground on 4th street and Lucky Strike Lane. He was an avid bowler, as many as 5 leagues a week, and golfer until Parkinson’s made it too difficult.
John fell in love with the love of his life, Kathy in 1973. However, their marriage was not to be at that time. Their paths would once again cross in 1985 and this time led to marriage on April 5th, 1986. This marriage gave John a step-daughter who he admired and loved like his own.
John was preceded in death by his dad, mom, mother-in-law (Dee Moore Davis), step father-in-law (Ed Moore), father- in -law (Eugene Melton), sister-in-law (Karen Eldridge) and brother (Stanley Vaughn).
He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy. Step-daughter Stacy (Kurt) Nakata, Grandkids Travis (Heather Fahey) Schneider, Tyler Nakata, Dakota Nakata, Kaleb Nakata and Lilliana Hunsinger. Great Grandkids Coraline Schneider and Pax Schneider. Sisters-in-law Kelly Sexson, Aimee (Roger) Lottridge, Shelly (Steve) DiFrancesco and Amy (Jeff) Olsen. Brother-in-law Darrin (Valerie Witt) Moore and Scott (Veronica) Melton. And many nieces, nephews and greats.
John Robert, as I lovingly called him, was a great husband and will be deeply missed. His memorial service will be Saturday, June 17th, 10:30am at First Christian Church, 2000 N. Lincoln.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to First Christian Church would be appreciated.
