Carol Meiers

Obituary of Carol Eloise Meiers

Carol Eloise Schepler Meiers, Child of God, was born May 15, 1926 in

Kendall, NY to William & Elsie Schepler. She had a fun childhood growing up on her parent’s farm along with brothers Kenneth & Sonny and sister Norma ~ playing in Lake Ontario, riding her bike up & down their country road, being best friends with her cousin, Delores and dressing up Skeezix, her cat.

As Carol entered into her 90’s she would contemplate how she got to live to such a nice long age. We would tease her that it was the fresh, warm milk she drank from the cow, how she helped her father squeeze little bags of arsenic over the broccoli to keep the worms at bay and picking pickles. Once she asked her mother, “Mumma, do you think I’ll have to pick pickles when I get to Heaven”?

Carol was Baptized and Confirmed at Concordia Lutheran Church in Kendall and graduated from Kendall High School where she played snare drums in the band.  Afterward she worked for Bausch & Lomb.

On August 2, 1947 she married Harold Meiers, who, when she was 13, gave her first kiss (and right on her lips). Carol thought she had committed a royal sin. They were able to celebrate 64 years together holding hands and always greeting one another with a kiss and an “I love you”.

Carol was a beautiful lady ~ kind & caring, so sweet~ as so many have said ~ and gracious ~a pleasure to be around. She wore the most beautiful smile and many times people would stop to tell her so.

What a loving mother and homemaker she was ~ sewing clothes for her family, canning & freezing their garden vegetables, serving delicious meals & birthday cakes and attending to her lovely flower gardens. Carol also loved “creating” gifts and crafts for others to enjoy. She made home welcoming and happy.

She used her hands in so many ways but mostly in prayer~ thanking God for the gift of her husband, children and grandchildren and His world in all its beauty. Carol loved life and lived it faithfully trusting in God’s grace and care. We were blessed He gave her to us as our mother, grandmother, GG and friend.

These last few weeks were becoming more difficult for her. She was tired, her body was weak and wearing down, but we knew it was preparing her for her Eternal one.

On Saturday night, June 24, 2023, at home in Fort Collins, as we held her hands, she slowly passed from us, forever held in God’s arms.      Mom, we love you and we miss you so.

Harold and their son, Terry preceded her in death. Carol is survived by daughters Linda and Kathi, son-in-law Bill, grandchildren Keith & wife Tonya, Sheri, Chad & wife Cristina, Larisa and Luke and great granddaughters Taylor, Kadi, Charlotte and Cheyenne, former daughter-in-law Pam & husband Rick and many nieces & nephews back east.

We got our first answer to prayer, when prior to learning of her aunt’s passing, a cousin told us of being awakened early on Sunday morning to a sweet angelic voice joyfully announcing “I am Alive”!    Carol, Mom?

     Thanks be to God ~
