Obituary of Ann Louise Veeder
Ann Louise Veeder, 75 of Berthoud, CO passed away peacefully on September 2, 2023 at Berthoud Living Center.
Ann was born in Pennsylvania in August, 1948 to parents William and Patricia Hoffman. She was raised in Millerton, NY. In high school she moved to Boulder, CO and then attended the University of Colorado where she was a cheerleader and fell in love with Michael D. Veeder, a football player. They were married in 1970 and had one son, Michael in 1973.
Ann loved horses, crafts, reading, gardening and travel. Some of her fondest memories were of childhood adventures in the woods of upstate New York with her best friend Lindy Baker and traveling across the country every summer with her son, Michael.
Ann was a pioneer in corporate customer service and project management, establishing award winning best practices for companies such as ADP, St. Jude Medical and Johnson & Johnson that are still utilized today. She was universally loved by her coworkers who were inspired by her work ethic, sense of humor and resiliency in a male dominated corporate world. She did this all as a single mother.
Being a mother is where Ann excelled most. She raised a son alone, but never missed a single game, milestone or special moment. Not one. She sacrificed her life and often her own happiness to play the role of both mother and father. She was truly one of a kind.
Sadly, Ann was in a catastrophic car accident in April 2000. It left her with a traumatic brain injury and paralyzed on one side. Even though the odds were against her, she fought to stay alive through many hard times all to be a part of the lives of her two grandchildren Logan and Annika, even attending football games and dance recitals despite being wheelchair bound.
We are so grateful for all she taught us, especially about the importance of family. She was an inspiration to us all to live everyday with love, laughter and a fierce passion to never give up no matter what life throws at you. Even though we understand that it’s hard for people to remember her before the accident, we mustn’t forget what an amazing person she was and how much she achieved in such a short amount of time.
Ann is survived by her son, Mike and his wife Laura of Longmont and her two grandchildren, Logan and Annika, who she adored. She is also survived by her “sister” Lindy and her brother Bill who lives in Texas.
The family will be celebrating her life in New York and Colorado in the coming year. We would love to hear stories about her from old friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to Dress for Success which empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.
