Obituary of Robert Wayne DeBrey
On December 19th, 1931, Robert (Bob) Wayne DeBrey began his 91 year journey on this earth. He was the youngest child of Ellen (Christensen) and Alexander DeBrey. born in Firestone, Colorado. After graduating from Frederick High School, he attended Lamar Junior College on a Baseball scholarship. He returned to marry Avis, the love of his life, on December 21, 1951.
Bob worked for a time at Caterpillar Tractor Company and at the Arsenal in Commerce City, CO where he lost his left thumb in an accident at work. A few years later he returned to school at Colorado State University where he graduated with his teaching degree. They later moved to Windsor, CO in 1968 where Bob was the High School Basketball Coach. He also taught physical education and industrial arts. He later received his Masters degree from University of Northern Colorado. He retired from teaching in 1975.
Bob and Avis enjoyed camping/fishing trips, traveling by car on vacations, playing card games with friends and family, and working with teenagers through their church. He also enjoyed hunting but especially loved fishing in Wyoming. He did not care much for the taste of fish but always enjoyed giving them away to various Doctors and friends. He loved gardening and was very knowledgeable of producing quality vegetables to share with neighbors and friends. His other favorite love was dancing. He and Avis danced the night away for many years. Many times a group of friends enjoyed the dance floor in their basement dancing to waltzes and such that Bob collected on CDs. Bob was a favorite at the Sundance Saloon where many young gals enjoyed learning and dancing with him.
He loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and looked forward to meeting Him face-to-face. He made a point of asking everyone he talked to if they knew the Lord as their Savior. He is at rest from all the pain his body suffered and has joined with those who met him at the gate.
Bob was preceded by his mother, father, and siblings. He leaves behind daughter Lynette (Luis) Cota, son Donald, grandson Jeremy (Shawn) Brunner, step-grandson Daniel Cota, and many nieces and nephews and a “special” daughter and son-in-law, Dan and Marilyn Wilson.
